We have received a lot questions regarding Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) and how it affects the importation of vehicles into Canada. The answer is; the procedure for paying taxes remains the same.
Goods and Service Tax (GST) is paid at the time of import and Provincial Sales Tax (PST) is paid at the time of registration to the the licensing office.
So if you reside in a province that has recently implemented HST and the licensing office tells you that they want to collect HST, tell them you’ve already paid the GST and they are to only collect the PST!
